How It Works
A place to practice and grow
The Far Meadow is a living school for the long journey of healing, maturing, and becoming fully yourself.
We believe meaningful inner work happens gradually. We return to the same questions, the same teachings, even the same places in ourselves—but every time, we return as someone slightly different.
This is the upward spiral of the journey.
Like climbing a mountain, we don't climb vertically straight up to the peak. We spiral our way up, encountering familiar terrain each time around. But if we're paying attention and doing our work, each time we come around, we see from a slightly higher perspective.
This is why The Far Meadow is a membership. Inner work is not something we consume and complete. It's something we practice. Membership and belonging take the rush out of the experience. It allows you to relax into the long journey.
Think of it like a yoga studio, a meditation community, or any place where you practice something regularly.
Some months, you may immerse yourself in a live program. Other months, you may spend time in The Far Meadow Practice Library, revisit an old teaching, or find your way into The Commons and spend time with fellow travelers.
You don't need to do everything all at once. You don't need to make the most of every month.
All you need to do is stay in the process, follow your curiosity, and let the deepening happen.
Your journey begins at The Trailhead
When you join The Far Meadow, you'll enter through The Trailhead—a gentle orientation to the school, its teachings, and the community.
You'll learn how everything fits together and receive your first teachings and practices.
You'll be introduced to The Far Meadow Practice Library—a rich and growing collection of meditations, breathwork practices, bedtime stories, and ways of meeting the natural world.
You'll also find your way into The Commons: the living heart of our community, where you can meet fellow travelers, share what you're discovering, tend dreams, ask questions, and find companionship along the way.
You'll get a sense of where you are and perhaps a glimpse of where you'd like to go.
You don't need to know the whole path.
You only need to take the next step.
We will shine the light on the trail ahead for you.
Year One: Begin the spiral up
During your first year, you'll have the opportunity to move through the immersive live programs with Julia as they are offered throughout the seasons.
The winter season offers teachings on tending dreams and a deep meditation training and immersion.
The spring offers teachings in the meaning and practice of compassion -- starting with yourself and then rippling out into the world.
In the summertime, we turn toward Julia's signature Nature-Based Parts Work. This life-changing framework helps quiet the inner critic and gives you a way to discover and nurture the wise parts of yourself that are already there.
And in the fall, we turn further inward, just as nature does. Through Shadow Work, we begin to shed what is no longer essential and reclaim some of the gems we once hid away.
Each program offers a different doorway into healing and growing.
Between live programs, the Far Meadow Practice Library gives you a place to continue tending your inner life—to deepen what you're learning, explore something new, or simply find a practice that meets you where you are.
Along the way, you'll gradually receive the self-study teachings, giving you room to follow your own curiosity and deepen your work between live programs.
You won't be expected to absorb everything.
Instead, you'll have time to experience, practice, integrate, and return.
The teachings don't disappear behind you
Once you've walked a live program, its teachings become part of your ongoing library.
You can return to them whenever you need them.
And you will.
A compassion teaching you encounter in your first year may land differently after you've done shadow work.
A meditation practice may become something entirely different after you've quieted the inner critic.
A dream you once couldn't understand may become suddenly clear years later.
This is why the teachings remain available to you.
We don't believe in learning them once.
We believe in returning to familiar ground with new eyes.
Beyond the first year
The first year gives you a foundation.
But The Far Meadow isn't designed to be something you "graduate" from.
Over time, the teachings become less about acquiring new information and more about inhabiting what you already know.
You may participate deeply in one season and quietly in another.
You may return to a teaching you've encountered before and discover that it has something entirely new to say.
You may spend more time in The Commons, developing friendships, making art, tending dreams, or bringing a long-held vision into the world. What begins as a place to meet fellow travelers may, over time, become one of the places where some of your deepest belonging takes root.
Gradually, the question becomes less about:
"How do I fix myself?"
and more:
"What kind of person do I want to become?"
And eventually:
"What is mine to give?"
This is where healing begins to become service.
The path is yours
There is no prescribed pace.
Some people will want to immerse themselves in every live program. Others will move slowly, returning to a few teachings again and again.
Some seasons will call for deep inner work. Others will call for creativity, friendship, service, or simply being alive in the world.
The Far Meadow is designed to support all of it.
Your membership gives you a place to return to, year after year, as your life changes and your understanding deepens. You don't have to be deeply engaged every month for your membership to be meaningful. Like any place of practice, The Far Meadow will meet you differently in different seasons of your life.
We will hold you gently but consistently, so there is always a light on to guide you home.
Here, you have a home for the journey.
